What is Colour? >>

Colour isn't colour… colour is a reflection of white light.

Just as we use Colour to express ourselves and reflect out to others our inner needs, intentions and emotions, Colour is a reflection of particular parts of the White Light which is our source of life.

When White light shines on a coloured article the article absorbs all of the colours within the light except the one which it reflects back. Therefore whatever we wear, whichever Colour we are attracted to reflects to those around us our real nature and our real emotional needs at the time.

Colour is a changing thing, like the Rainbow, which reflects all the colours of our Planet. It is not permanent, just as our emotional needs are not permanent. Sometimes the Rainbow is strong, sometimes faint. Sometimes one colour will stand our from the rest and sometimes colours are hard to see.

Colour reflects our current direction and needs and can be used to indicate to others our intentions. We usually instinctively choose colours to wear and live in which are saying what we want to say. If we wish to get a message across to others or support ourselves with the strength of a colour, we can use this 'language' to silently portray our message.

Occasions when this can happen are times when we apply for a job, perhaps to gain confidence to stand up in front of a crowd, be more appealing to a lover (in pink or soft blue). Knowledge of the way we use Colour can help us say what we want to say.

Newton's observation of Colour was that Light is composed of a number of waves all having different wavelengths or frequencies, or rates of vibration. He noticed that when light fell on a transparent object, such as a bucket of water or a prism, light is reflected at the angle to which it falls. He noted that all colours have different wave lengths. Red light has the longest wavelength and the lowest frequency is refracted the least. Violet light with the shortest wavelength and the highest frequency is refracted most. This observation connects with our knowledge of our own vibrating body - or Chakras in the body. The Root/Red Chakra vibrates at a speed of four, compared with our Crown/Violet Chakra which vibrates at one thousand. This is called the Thousand petalled lotus in the East.

To see Colour in its true Hue, Tint or Tone we need to see it in White light or Sunlight. The ordinary incandescent light has a yellow glow which changes our perception of Colour. Florescent light is made up of many coloured tubes, each type of tube having a different colour wavelength can be 'felt' by blind people and can be felt more subtly by those who are in your presence, so be sure to reflect your 'Colour' truthfully to all.
