Personification of Heaven, the sky god, son and incestuous consort of Gaia, earth goddess. Their passion was so great that Ouranos, "eager for love, enveloped the earth in all directions" (Hesoid).

Such obsessive passion was completely constrictive of Gaia, and acted to confine Ouranos' children to her body.

Kronos (Saturn), the youngest, determined to overthrow his hated father, used a sickle made by Gaia to cut off Ouranos' phallus buried deep in the earth. "Emasculated sky was thus separated from earth" (Arthur Cotterell) and Gaia conceived the "strong ones", the Titans and Cyclopes, from his blood.

In simple terms: Uranus is the ancient Greek deity of the Heavens, the earliest supreme god. Uranus was the son and mate of Gaia the father of Cronos (Saturn) and of the Cyclopes and Titans (predecessors of the Olympian gods).
Uranus' influence on the world is about to come into its own, as the Age of Aquarius succeeds the fading Age of Pisces. The Christian fish is about to be replaced by the water-carrier, and an age of group consciousness has already begun to develop.
Know for sexual excess and deviation, Uranus is associated with technology and science fiction. Original, versatile, independent, but can be eccentric, perverse and rebellious.
