<<< January 2003 >>>

Fri 3 : New Moon :
During this time you will have a highly subjective personality. You strive to accomplish and fulfill your own personal plans and ideals. You tend to react impulsively and emotionally.

Sat 18 : Full Moon : Blessing Moon SH : Cold Moon NH (Moon in Cancer)

[SH=Southern Hemisphere, NH=Northern Hemisphere]

Blessing Moon : This month arrives with lazy days and leaves with the sense that summer, while still around us, is running on borrowed time. In honor of the sense of freedom January brings to our hearts, we stretch our minds out to the world to strengthen our connections with the universe.

For this months' Moon ritual you need nothing more than a blanket and few free minutes. Spread your blanket under the night sky as the Moon rises full. If you like, bring your favorite crystal, wand, or other sacred object with you.

Focus on your connection within the great cosmos of ours, and feel your energy unite with all of the planets, stars, and other life forms that make up our galaxy. Sense your interconnection to the great chain we call life. Affirmation for the Blessing Moon: "I sense my connection to the Universe."

Cold Moon : In January we turn our attention to new beginnings. This month, we focus our ritual on goals we want to achieve this year. On the Full Moon, sit down with a page of clean, white paper, and choose an ink whose color matches your goals: green for prosperity, red for love, blue for creativity. Think about each goal, then write it down. Make sure it's achievable, something you want. When you've finished, fold it three times, and seal with wax. Then take it outside under the Cold Moon and say: "Wishes and goals, visions and dreams, Help me achieve all that I desire. Strengthen my drive for that which I aspire. "

Place your list in a safe place until New Year's Eve, then open it and see how much you've achieved and how many goals you've revised or let go. Affirmation for the Cold Moon; "I choose goals within my grasp, that are my own desires."

Moon in Cancer : Because the Moon rules the Sign of Cancer, people will be particularly affected by this influence. People may feel more emotional and more sensitive than usual. This is a time of sentimentality and nurturing and caring for family and other loved ones. Like the Crab that represents Cancer, people may become moody and vulnerable to emotional upsets. Care needs to be taken to avoid hurting the feelings of others as well as having your own feelings hurt.

Mon 20 : Sun in Aquarius : When the Sun is in Aquarius, mental agility and socialising are the keywords. Aquarius is the friendliest of Signs -- the Fixed Air Sign of humanitarianism and social gatherings. Ruled by Saturn, Planet of Karma and Uranus, Planet of Individuality and Rebellion, Aquarian energy is a stimulating combination of innovative, futuristic thought and gregarious amiability. This transit is a time for abandoning tradition and forging new techniques and perhaps new paradigms.

Aquarius brings people together to work on issues that are beyond the individual, that touch us as a society. Charitable pursuits and progressive ideas come to the fore. With all this community-mindedness and focus on advancement, though, this Air Sign force can seem detached, even aloof or cold. It's not a time for intimacy or quiet reflection -- use this time to turn your thoughts and energies outward.

A good time for:
Hanging out with big groups of friends
Enjoying technical gadgetry
Working for a humanitarian cause

Each month we focus on a different crystal to help you become acquainted with their elements and how they can help you.

Aquamarine

Aquamarine is a variety of beryl which crystallises prismatically, sometimes vertically striated and, occasionally, terminated with small pyramidal faces. The colour ranges from light blue to green.

It is a "stone of courage". It enhances ones ability for rapid intellectual response and helps one to remain impeccable through assimilation of knowledge concerning ones beginning and the reality which one has actualised. It accelerates the intellectual reasoning processes and makes one unconquerable through learning - not only about the physical world, but about oneself. It provides a shielding property for the aura and the suble bodies.

It encourages the innate ability to "always be prepared". One way of protecting oneself, temporarily, from pollutants is to imagine the essence of aquamarine in the air on all sides - the difference in the air quality is usually recognisable. It has also been used to guard against injury during battle.

There is a flowing quality to the energy of aquamarine; at the same time, the energy is also structured so that balance and order are maintained. It provides for alignment of the chakras and balancing of the network of structures connecting the physical and ethereal bodies.

It helps one to attune to more spiritual levels of awareness; for those who are involved in spiritual development, it provides emotional and intellectual stability and enhances the connection with the higher-self. it enables one to travel deep within the self and to understand the complexities, to simplify the resultant informatin, and to concurrently remain centered.

It emits a gentle and compassionate energy, exhibiting moderatin; it helps jedgemental people to be more tolerant, and can help one who is "swamped" by responsibility to bring order to the process. It also helps one to take responsibility for ones actions and encountered situations.
