Shamash to the Assyrians and Veiovis to the Etruscans, Mithras to the Persians, Ra to the Egyptions, Atepomarus to the Celts and Apololo to the Greeks, the Sun is youthful and masculine.

Apollo was son of Zues (Jupiter) and Leto, twin brother of Artemis, the virgin huntress. God of hunters and poets, leader of the Muses. Associated with the number seven. Venerated in Sparta at the Hyakinthia Festival.

At the age of four days Apollo went to Delphi to slay the earth serpent who had tried to molest his mother during her pregnancy. The python was a son of Gaia. He breathed revelations through the rocks to the Pythia, a priestess who turned his knowledge into the prophecies of the Delphic oracle. Apollo slew him, took his place and assumed Delphic influence, and hence power over archery, music and medicine.

Affable of spirit, affectionate and great-hearted, the Sun represents creativity and joy. His regard for himself may be as great as anyone's, and he has a tendency to try and outshine others.
