Symbol of mystery and change, the Moon represents deepest femininity, her cycle the mother of menstrual cycles. She has been represented in mythology as Circe and Hecate. She is change and flux.

As Circe, she turned Odysseus' men into swine. Odysseus sought the help of Hermes and overcame her spells. His men were restored, and Circe gave advice on how to navigate the passage between Scylla and Charybdis, territory of the Sirens.

As Hecate, she was cousin of Artemis and Apollo. She was the "distant one", goddess of the dark hours. She dwelt at places where two roads crossed, on tombs, or near the blood of murdered persons. She could be won by leaving food at nearby crossroads every month.

Her behaviour is instinctive: she acts from the heart and soul. Her emotions, as guide, can lead her astray. Changeability can lead either to moodiness and unreliability or imagination and sympathy.
