There have been many calls to Anti-war actions at the moment. I am sure most of you agree with this response. From our research of previous historians in times of war and calls for violence, the main way to combat this is through Love. Let's have look at the theories of these great revolutionaries:

The Black Freedom Movement -
The Reverend James Lawson was one of the freedom movement's leading teachers of non-violence. A black minister from the urban North of America, he had served time in a federal prison as a conscientious objector to the Korean War and spent three years in India as a Methodist missionary. By the time he began to teach black students around Nashville in 1958, he could do the job well. But to the consternation of his angry young students, his instruction was focused on the power of love. He explained later that this focus was quite calculated. He did not want to set off his students' powerful emotions. Through role-playing and quiet, intelligent teaching, he taught the young activists to inoculate themselves against the shaming words and humiliating actions of whites.

Ghandi -
Gandhi's independence movement expelled the British from India, it expected violence and decided to meet it with as much love as they could muster. By taking on suffering with dignity and showing empathy for their opponents, they intended to convert bystanders and even the opponents themselves. "Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man." Mohandas K. Gandhi on non-violence. Gandhi also said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world".

Gandhiji's Talisman: "I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test: RECALL THE FACE OF THE POOREST AND THE WEAKEST MAN WHOM YOU MAY HAVE SEEN AND ASK YOURSELF IF THE STEP YOU CONTEMPLATE IS GOING TO BE OF ANY USE TO HIM.

And on that note, here is a fantastic resource put together by the grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi, Arun Gandhi. Here you will find the teachings of Gandhi and many comments on living a way of non-violence http://www.gandhiinstitute.org/

Martin Luther King, Jr -
"As you press on for justice, be sure to move with dignity and discipline, using only the weapon of love. Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Always
avoid violence. If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in your struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your

chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos."
Excerpted from "The Most Durable Power", a sermon delivered on 6 November 1956 in Montgomery, Ala. (Reprinted in Christian Century 74 [5 June 1957]: 10-11.)

These ways of being carry through into all areas of our lives. The choice is yours, on how you choose to act, with love or violence.

What is a Blue Moon?
The term Blue Moon is believed to have originated in 1883 after the eruption of Krakatoa. The volcano put so much dust in the atmosphere that the Moon actually looked blue in color. This was so unusual that the term "once in a Blue Moon" was coined. There were twelve names for full moons, one for each month, and the name Blue Moon was used in years which had 13 full moons. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/ bluemoon1.html

There are differing views on which full moon is the blue one. One version states that it's the second Full Moon occurring within one calendar month. The other states it's the third full moon in a season, the one before the last full moon. You will notice they have each picked a different month to celebrate the blue moon. I will be celebrating on Nov 1, and if I don't have enough magic then, I'll celebrate again on the 30th :)
